What is a Birth Doula?
A birth doula is birth support who provides emotional, spiritual, physical and informational support to expectant parents before, during and shortly after birth. A doulas scope of practice differs to that of a registered midwife; a doula does not provide clinical care during pregnancy, birth or postpartum.
A doula will work with you to develop a plan for your birth, they are your advocate as well as a mediator between you and your maternity-care providers.
I’m a Registered Midwife and Certified Hypnobirthing Australia Practitioner teaching the Positive Birth Program on the north side of Brisbane and online.
My experience in the birthing community spans over 10 years and my love for the work I do continues to grow as each year passes, with a particular aptitude for antenatal education. In my background before midwifery, I have training in massage and aromatherapy and integrate my knowledge of the two with my teaching. Additionally, I have given birth to my 5 children calmly using hypnobirthing techniques successfully in hospital, birth centre and home settings.

HAVE A QUESTION?
What is the difference between a birth doula and a midwife?
A midwife is a registered professional and healthcare provider. They are responsible for the medical and clinical aspect of childbirth.
A doula does not provide medical care. They are a trained birth coach who offer physical, emotional, spiritual and educational support either before and during birth or in the postpartum period.
Is a doula a substitute for a midwife during birth?
No, a doula is not a substitute for a midwife or doctor as they do not have the same specialised medical training. Doula’s provide no clinical care.
As a birth doula, will you be available to me after the birth?
I offer two postpartum visits where I will provide nourishing support to you and your baby. This is an opportunity for me to assess and discuss if I need to refer you to another professional for support (e.g., a lactation consultant) and
